KB playing the guitar

Technical Guff

Well, here we are with a new tunes page. I hope this is easy to use. Here are a few guidelines. To play a tune just click its' title. The tune will play directly in the page - you do not need Windows Media Player or RealPlayer or any other external program.

You can sort by either of the two columns by clicking the column title ("Artist" or "Tune").

Later on I'm going to add the ability to make your own personal playlists.

The snag at the moment is that if you navigate away from this page, the music stops. You can obviously get around it by opening a new browser window. Another solution would be to open the player in a pop-up window - like the Rock Island line feature on the home page. I'll mull it over for a few days. If anyone has a preference, please EMail me.

The Major and The Emperor are of the opinion that Das Boot is one of the finest WW2 films ever made. The song "J'attendrai" is played by the commander of the German U Boat when he's feeling very homesick. In the film the song is sung by Rina Ketty.

Jan 23rd 2010 was the centenary of the birth of Django Reinhardt, so here's a wonderful clip from U Tube of him playing that very same song. And if you like Django, then you'll love Oscar Aleman - here he is playing Stardust. Oscar was a contemporary of Django's. They were both working in Paris in the late 1930s and were good friends. They never managed to make a recording together. And finally - here's my favourite version of J'attendrai, by Jean Sablon .
